What is Tabata?
The basis of Tabata Training is very simple and a total Tabata Workouts lasts only 4 minutes! But this is 4 minutes of Super high Intense training! If it isn’t pushing you to the max, then it is not intense enough. For Tabata to work it must be all out effort. Tabata can be done on a variety of exercises, for simplicity we’ll use sprints as an example here. The Tabata workout is-
Sprint as hard as you can for 20 seconds
Walk for 10 seconds
Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 sets.
And that is it!!!
So what you have is a total of 4 minutes workout time.
With high intensity exercise (starting at 4 minutes at a time) your body continues to burn calories for up to 2 days later. Yep – 48 hours later and you are still getting the fat burning benefits form those 4 minutes of high intensity! 2 days later your body is still working hard burning that stubborn fat long after your workout is complete.
The Tabata Protocol is simple yet brutally effective. All you have to do is sprint for 20 seconds, then rest for 10 seconds and repeat 7 times. The sprints can be done however you like them, on foot, on a bike, up a hill, with a kettlebell, with a barbell, using a body weight exercise or even on an elliptical trainer I suppose. The real key is to sprint like a madman during the 20 seconds and to just try and catch your breath during the rest phase. You will never be able to fully catch your breath and so will go further and further into oxygen debt as each set passes. Now, if you have not exercised in years do not just head over to the gym and bang out Tabata sprints, you might just die right there (Hopefully not!). But if you are reasonably fit and healthy they are super effective. AND the more that you do them the fitter and healthier you will become!
Tabata Works! If you are looking to get fitter and shed excess bodyweight then take 2 Ephalean 3DX 20 minutes before your Tabata workout to burn even more calories!
